Just when you thought it was safe to go back in the water, Syfy has officially announced a sequel to “Sharknado.” “Sharknado 2: The Second One” will air on the network in July 2014. Instead of California, the next installment will hit New York.
How about that name, though? While the subtitle “The Second One” leaves a lot to be desired, Syfy Executive Vice President, Programming and Original Movies, Thomas Vitale says fans on Twitter picked the name. He adds, “We want to thank all our viewers for their wonderful contributions to keeping up the shark-mentum.” Yeah, shark-mentum.
It really feels like Twitter dropped the ball on this one. There are too many possible titles that would be way better than simply “The Second One.” Why not “Sharknado Takes Manhattan” or “The Sharkening?”
It’s unclear who, if anyone, will be returning for “Sharknado 2.” Early reports have led to speculation that Tara Reid, who plays the estranged wife of star Ian Ziering, may not be wanted for the second movie.
Either way, at the rate it’s going there will probably also be a “Sharknado 3: Yet Another Shark-Based Tornado” in no time.
