“Game of Thrones” found some new musical guests for Season 4: Sigur Ros. The band is said to be involved in the upcoming season of the HBO series, but it’s unclear whether the bandmates will be making appearances as characters in the show or instead will be recording a song for the upcoming season.
There have been precedents for both in previous “Game of Thrones” seasons. Bands like The National and The Hold Steady have recorded songs for Seasons 2 and 3 respectively (“The Rains of Castamere” and “The Bear and the Maiden Fair”), so it would make sense to have a third band come in and record a track for Season 4.
But at the same time, band members from Snow Patrol and Coldplay have also played characters in the show (Gary Lightbody played one of Roose Bolton’s soldiers in Season 3, and Will Champion played one of the members of the band playing “The Rains of Castamere” at the Red Wedding).
Entertainment Weekly reports that Sigur Ros’ Jon Por “Jonsi” Birgisson, Georg Holm and Orri Pall Dyrason are all shooting an appearance at “Game of Thrones'” Croatia set. Whether they end up recording a song for Season 4 or not , it sounds like we’ll at least be seeing them in the upcoming season.
Also new in “Game of Thrones” Season 4 are Roger Ashton-Griffiths as Mace Tyrell, Pedro Pascal as Oberyn Martell, Mark Gatiss as Tycho Nestoris, Indira Varma as Ellaria Sand, and Joseph Gatt in an undisclosed role. Meanwhile, Michiel Huisman has joined the cast to reportedly replace Ed Skrein as Daario Naharis and Hafthor Julius Bjornsson will now play Ser Gregor Clegane, aka the Mountain.
“Game of Thrones” returns to HBO with Season 4 in Spring 2014.
