Bryan Cranston has secured his first post-“Breaking Bad” TV role — and it’s one he played before becoming Walter White.
Cranston will make a return appearance on “How I Met Your Mother” later this fall as Hammond Druthers, the pompous architect who was formerly Ted’s (Josh Radnor) boss. He appeared twice on the show in 2006 and 2007, before “Breaking Bad” began its run on AMC.
When we last saw Hammond in the Season 2 episode “Columns,” Ted had been promoted over him at their firm. Hammond did everything he could to undermine Ted, but every time Ted tried to fire him, something got in the way. Ted finally did let him go — right as Hammond was having a heart attack.
CBS is keeping quiet about how Cranston fits back into the story. It’s unlikely he’s a wedding guest, so some sort of flashback or flash-forward seems the most likely bet. Unless, that is, Hammond has fallen so far that he’s now a waiter at the Farhampton Inn.
There’s no word yet on an airdate for Cranston’s episode.
