The “Comedy Central Roast of James Franco“ pulled in OK ratings Monday night (Sept. 2), improving on last year’s roast of Roseanne.
The premiere of the roast, which featured the likes of Andy Samberg, Seth Rogen and Aziz Ansari, drew 3.1 million viewers, 2.4 million of whom fell into the adults 18-49 demographic.
Two replays later in the night pushed the total viewer count to 5.2 million. While the Franco roast was bigger than the one of Roseanne last year, it fell behind recent roasts of Charlie Sheen, Donald Trump and David Hasselhoff in total viewers (though in the young-guy audience the channel targets, only Sheen’s roast was bigger).

– What do LeBron James and Mike O’Malley have in common? As of now, they’re both involved in developing a Starz comedy pilot called “Survivor’s Remorse.” The show is about two friends who rise from a tough Philadelphia neighborhood to fame and fortune but sometimes feel guilty about having made it out. O’Malley, who stars on NBC’s upcoming “Welcome to the Family” and has written for “Shameless,” is writing the pilot and will be an executive producer. James, his long-time manager Maverick Carter, Paul Wachter and Tom Werner (“The Cosby Show”) are also exec producing.
– FOX has picked up a dating show called “Dream Date” from “American Idol” host Ryan Seacrest‘s production company. Details of the show are being kept quiet, but it reportedly involves several women in search of romance and includes “a celebrity element.” A 2013-14 airdate is a possibility. [Deadline]
– NBC and Electus, the company run by former network head Ben Silverman, are working together on developing adaptations of three telenovelas, with at least one getting the green light as a 13-episode series. The show could air multiple episodes per week as well, mimicking the air pattern of a novela. The first project on the list is “The Black Widow,” based on a popular soap that debuted in Venezuela in 2011.
