Showtime’s newest series “Masters of Sex” was a critical darling when TV critics got to see it early for the TCA Summer Press Tour, and now the rest of television viewers get to see what all the buzz is about. The network made the first episode of the period drama available online for free in the weeks leading up to its Sept. 29 premiere.
The pilot episode introduces audiences to Michael Sheen‘s William Masters and Lizzy Caplan‘s Virginia Johnson. Together the pair made groundbreaking advances in sex studies in the 1950s by delving into then-taboo subjects.
“Before masters and Johnson, people are always telling women that was their fault, and that’s some bulls***,” Caplan told members of the press at “Masters of Sex’s” TCA panel.
Sheen added to Zap2it of the risky content of the show, “It’s always a risk because you’re signing on to something really on the basis of one script and it’s something that you might end up doing for years and years and years. It was a risk, but I thoroughly enjoyed doing the first season. I’ve had a great time, so I’m really hoping that we get to carry on.”
“Masters of Sex” premieres on Showtime on Sept. 29 at 10 pm. ET.
