Miss Alabama Chandler Champion is going to be wearing her school colors proudly. The University of Alabama student is wearing a custom-made “Roll Tide” dress when she attends the Miss America Competition in Atlantic City, N.J. On the back, the dress shows off the fact that the Alabama football team Crimson Tide won the 2012 national championship.
The outfit is designed by Ann Northington and features a black jumpsuit with a fitted bodice and a houndstooth float. Miss Alabama director Nan Teninbaum tells AL.com that this dress is the “natural choice” for the Miss America pageant. “With Chandler being a University of Alabama student and the university being the national champs for three years, we chose to do national champs,” she explains.
“I really like to be trendy, but I do like to march to the beat of my own drum,” Champion adds. “I don’t go with exactly what the magazines are telling you or what different stores would promote every month, I go with what I like and I rock it.”
Meanwhile, the dress also comes with matching shoes. The whole outfit will make its debut at the “Show Us Your Shoes” parade on Sept. 14.
