Will Will Smith come back for “Independence Day 2”? Originally director Roland Emmerich said Smith won’t be back for more, but now he’s telling a different story.

“I sometimes say no, Will Smith will not be in it because he didn’t want to do it at first. Now we have a meeting planned, we want to talk about it again. Anything can happen,” he says.

While that’s not a definitive yes, it also sounds fairly optimistic. Smith’s last film, “After Earth,” didn’t do amazingly well at the box office, so he could use a nice bump for his blockbuster reputation. The same goes for Emmerich’s “White House Down,” which was one of the biggest flops of 2013.

“The Amazing Spider-Man” writer James Vanderbilt is writing the script for the movie. It was said to be due in theaters on July 3, 2015, but now might be pushed until 2016.
