In a surprising move, former “Doctor Who” star David Tennant has signed on to star in FOX’s limited series adaptation of “Broadchurch,” which airs in the UK on ITV. The reason the casting seems strange is Tennant also stars on the original series.
The second series of the British version of the show is scheduled to begin shooting in 2014, but so is the American remake, Variety reports. It’s already been announced that “Broadchurch” creator Chris Chibnall is on board as an executive producer. He will be joined by Dan Futterman and Anya Epstein, who will also be the showrunners.
The series follows the murder investigation of a young boy by a detective. In the FOX version it will be an American detective, which means there will likely be an accent coming from the actor.
“Broadchurch” is one of three “event series” FOX is planning for their 2014 TV season. There’s also a continuation of “24” and “Wayward Pines” from M. Night Shyamalan.
