Get ready for a whole new era of “Harry Potter.” Scribe J.K. Rowling is already at work on a “Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them” feature film (or films), and Warner Bros. has quickly trademarked the rights to other “Harry Potter” spinoffs like “Quidditch Through The Ages” and “Tales of Beedle The Bard.” While many are wondering if this could mean even more “Harry Potter” movies, we wonder: could the Boy Who Lived’s tale finally make its way to the small screen in some capacity?
The “Harry Potter” names that Warner Bros. trademarked can be used for more than just live action feature films. Other possible uses include reality TV series, computer games and animated films and TV series. Something like “Tales of Beedle The Bard” would be perfect as an animated series, as “The Tale of the Three Brothers” was already animated in “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1.” But with Disney and Warner Bros. already experimenting with crossing over their comic book feature film properties with TV series, “Harry Potter” seems like it would be perfect fodder as well.
Of course, the TV series shouldn’t actually have anything to do with Harry Potter or his story. But a live action television show about Quidditch, or about Hogwarts, or about some other facet of the “Harry Potter” universe that has been kicking around in Rowling’s mind for a decade that she hasn’t had a chance to explore yet? That’s an intriguing concept.
We should clarify that all of this is just speculation, but it’s easy to see how the realms of television and film are colliding. With “Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD” and maybe DC’s “Constantine” series, these expansive universes are overflowing across mediums. “Potter” already has a number of video games and the spinoff books that Rowling has written, and it’s clear she and WB want to keep the world of “Harry Potter” alive for years to come. What better way to do that than to let fans tune in to a TV show every week? We’re getting excited just thinking about the possibility.
Would you want to see a “Harry Potter” TV show? What would you want it to be about?
