Robin Thicke has a unique upbringing with a rich and famous dad, “Growing Pains” star Alan Thicke. Alan has a bit of a reputation with women and Robin says it made for an interesting experience growing up.
“My dad was single my whole pubescent period,” he says in an interview with Elle. “He had Ms. Alabama, Ms. Dominican Republic — every week. I was like, ‘Dang, Pops.'” Thicke even remembers one specific run in with a lady his dad brought home. “The first time I saw a naked woman was when I went to take a shower one morning before school,” he says. “I was like, ‘Who is this girl in my shower?'”
Alan also took the time to teach Robin what not to do with women. Once while vacationing together, the elder Thicke caught his son staring at a woman walking by. “He said, ‘I know she’s pretty, but you stared at her and followed her across the room. What if there’s a prettier girl sitting two tables away? Now she’s not going to feel special. She’ll say, ‘You look at all the girls like that.’ You’ve gotta play it cool so you don’t look like you’re desperate’,” Robin recalls.
Thicke might not have needed the advice in the end. After all, he’s been with his wife, actress Paula Patton, since he was 14 years old. Eight years into their marriage, Robin seemingly couldn’t be happier. He says the spice is there there in abundance and even shares a peculiar secret: They listen to Robin’s music in the bedroom. “Sometimes she’ll even play groupie for me,” Robin says. That’s not weird at all.
