Cinemax has picked up another season of its action drama “Strike Back” — but also says the fourth season will be its final one.
The show, which wrapped its third season on Oct. 18, will return in 2014 with a final 10-episode run. Several key behind-the-scenes people, including executive producer Andy Harries and director/co-exec producer Michael Bassett, have signed on for the final season, but deals with stars Philip Winchester and Sullivan Stapleton aren’t done yet. Cinemax says a cast for the final season will be announced later.
The show, which debuted in the United States in 2011, is a co-production with Sky and Left Bank in the U.K. It represented Cinemax’s first real effort at original scripted programming and has drawn solid viewership for the channel.
Cinemax is currently airing the first U.K. season of the show under the title “Strike Back: Origins.” The six-episode series stars Andrew Lincoln (“The Walking Dead”) and Richard Armitage (“The Hobbit”) and, as the title indicates, is being treated as a prequel to the current show.
