According to a report from The Hollywood Reporter, the R-rated film will be turned into a TV series, written by Daniel Loflin (“Supernatural”). Loflin will executive produce as well, along with Ted Field (one of the film’s original producers) and Mike Weber.
The story of this thriller focuses on a young and beautiful nanny who begins to dismantle and terrorize an affluent, suburban family through her job. Rebecca De Mornay and Annabella Sciorra starred in the movie, which made $88 million at the box office in its original release.
Considering the youth-oriented slant of most programming at ABC Family, it seems likely that the focus of a “Hand That Rocks the Cradle” series would be the nanny and not the family. Thrillers, of course, are nothing new on the network of “Pretty Little Liars,” “Ravenswood” and “Twisted.”
