Thus far on “Reign” our young heroine, Mary Queen of Scots (Adelaide Kane), has only had to contend with her future mother in law. But that’ll change when “Private Practice” star Amy Brenneman joins the cast as Mary’s mother, Marie de Guise.
Mary and her mom, the acting regent of Scotland, will reunite when Marie heads to French Court to visit her daughter after spending years apart. Marie and Queen Catherine de Medici (Megan Follows) of France, mother of Mary’s fiance Prince Francis (Toby Regbo), will clash when they both conspire to for their own benefit.
“We’ve been waiting for just the right moment, and the actor, to introduce Mary’s mother – the complicated and fascinating Marie de Guise,” executive producer Laurie McCarthy said in a statement. “In a time when women held very little power, Marie ruled a nation under siege. Amy Brenneman’s talent, strength and beauty illuminate even the darker corners of Marie de Guise. Amy’s character will face off with Megan Follows’ character, not to mention her own daughter, Mary Hearts will break and blood will spill as a major battle of wits ensues.”
