Taylor Swift knew ahead of time that she would receive the Country Music Association’s Pinnacle Award at Wednesday’s (Nov. 6) CMA Awards. Yet thanks to a clip package of A-list celebrities congratulating her, she still got to show off her now-familiar “Who, me? I’m shocked” face.
The proof is in the GIF:
To be fair, it was quite the clip package. After being serenaded by adorable “Nashville” sisters Lennon and Maisy Stella and praised from the stage by country music luminaries including Vince Gill, Tim McGraw and Faith Hill, the show cut to the pre-taped messages. Mick Jagger, Julia Roberts, Justin Timberlake, Reese Witherspoon and others offered their congratulations, while in an inset on the screen Swift went into full fangirl mode.
The CMA has only given one Pinnacle Award in the past, to Garth Brooks in 2005. It’s reserved for artists who have achieved the highest levels of record and concert sales and who have made an impact both on country music and the wider world of pop culture. Though she’s just 23, you can’t argue that Swift doesn’t meet all those criteria.
