Carly Rae Jepsen is ready to make her Broadway debut. The “Call Me Maybe” singer announced on Instagram that she would be taking on the title role in “Rodgers and Hammerstein’s Cinderella” beginning February 4.
According to the New York Times, the former “Canadian Idol” finalist will appear in the show for 12 weeks, joining fellow Broadway newcomer Fran Drescher, who will play Cinderella’s evil stepmother. Jepsen calls the opportunity a “dream come true,” after appearing in productions of “Annie,” “Grease” and “The Wiz” in high school.
She will take over for Laura Osnes, who has played the role since previews began in January. Jepsen is also working on her third album, a followup to 2012’s “Kiss.”
