“Community” Season 5 will not have a Christmas episode. That does not, however, mean that the holidays are forgotten in Greendale. A trailer video for the upcoming season celebrates the season via animation and insanity in “A Miracle on Jeff’s Street.”
The action of the strange little video takes place at some point close to Christmas following Jeff’s (Joel McHale) graduation and return to being a lawyer. But poor Jeff is lonely without his study-group buddies. Not even an expository answering machine can help.
What can help is a magical visit from
Dean Pelton Santa and his Chang reindeer! Inside his magical sack, Santa Claus pulls out just about all of the study group friends — missing Pierce of course. There’s a chance that Pierce remains in the bag, but it’s probably best not to think about that.
In addition to being a fun intro back into the nutty world of Greendale Community College, the video also gives a handy lesson as to when fans can actually watch Season 5. Per Annie’s book:
- Double episode on Jan. 2
- The following four weeks will air single episodes on Thursdays
- Three weeks of Olympics pre-empt the show
- The rest of the season finishes and the study group “gets to be a family again!”
And then Troy vomits a roomful of presents. Because of course he does. “What’s happening with Troy!?!” (This is probably a reference to Donald Glover‘s departure midway through the upcoming season.)
All of this animated insanity seems to be a dream shared by the Dean (Jim Rash) and Chang (Ken Jeong). But that dream may soon be a reality when “Community” Season 5 returns Thursday, Jan. 2 at 8 p.m. on NBC.
