“The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug” director Peter Jackson is not giving up on his dream to direct an episode of “Doctor Who.” It was revealed in August that Jackson asked to direct an episode, for which he would receive a Dalek as payment.
Now that Jackson is out promoting the new “Hobbit” movie, he’s talking about the possibility again. “I would be very happy to,” he tells Digital Spy. In fact, it sounds like Jackson may have even pitched an idea. “I did suggest that they did a New Zealand story — something to do with the [rugby union] All Blacks versus the Daleks,” he says. “There’s a good story in there, although obviously the All Blacks would have to win!”
While that seems like more of a joke than anything else — the Daleks don’t seem like the rugby type — Jackson’s love for the show is obvious. Showrunner Steven Moffat needs to take Jackson up on his enthusiasm. After all, there’s a whole new Doctor on the way, so why not bring in someone who has never worked with the show before, especially when he’s an Oscar winner?
