“It’s amazing,” Derulo tells Zap2it about being included in the NYE festivities for the second time in his career. “It’s one of the biggest honors of the year…For me to be a part of it, I’m actually the only person doing 4 songs, so I’m really excited.”
As for what fans can expect from his time on the stage, he tells us: “I’m obsessed with making medleys … so I’m doing this really cool medley with all my songs [from 2009 to now,] so that’s really cool … It’s gonna be a very high-energy show … It’s exciting.”
Looking to his new year, Derulo lets us in on his resolution. “I have this two year plan to stay on the radio for two years. It’s gonna take a lot of hard work,” he admits. “I’m still in the studio, actually, recording the record, but that’s basically my resolution: To stay on the radio for two years. It’s already been year one, I’ve just got another year to fill.”
With that in mind, 2014 looks to be a busy one for Derulo, who’s readying the kick-off of his world tour in February. “That’s one of the most exciting things about 2014, that I get to tour,” he says. “You know, I had to cancel my last one because of my neck injury.”
While 2014 looks to be a huge year for Derulo, 2013 proved to be just as big. His love life heated up with “American Idol” cutie Jordin Sparks, leading to her starring in the music video for his song “Marry Me.” Not only that, but his hit song “The Other Side” was included in the new “Just Dance 2014.” “It was so cool because I’ve got two little nieces,” he says about making it into the video game. “They’re excited that I’m on the game that they play.”
As for whether he hears wedding bells in his and Sparks near future, Derulo plays coy. “When the time’s right, I suppose,” he says. “When the time is right.”
With his busy year ahead, he may want to start planning now.
