tony hale sag awards 2014 gi 'About a Boy' casts Tony Hale as Marcus' dad“About a Boy” now has a dad for its titular kid, Marcus. Tony Hale (“Veep,” “Arrested Development”) will play the absent father to the awkward boy.

Hale’s character is named Hugh Womple, according to EW.com. Womple is not a character from the 2002 Hugh Grant movie, but Marcus’ dad did appear in the 1998 novel of “About a Boy” by Nick Hornby. There is no information yet on when or how often the dad might appear.

Set to premiere on NBC Saturday, Feb. 22, “About a Boy” is a comedy centered on the relationship of an immature single guy, Will (David Walton), who befriends his neighbor, a socially inept adolescent named Marcus (Benjamin Stockham). The series will also star Minnie Driver as Marcus’ mother, Fiona.

The Emmy-winning Hale currently co-stars in “Veep,” where he plays the vice president’s personal aide, Gary Walsh. He previously played Buster Bluth on “Arrested Development.”
