For the next week leading up to the milestone episode airing on Thursday (Jan. 23), “500 Years of Solitude,” we’ll be sharing interviews with both current and gone-but-never-forgotten stars of “The Vampire Diaries” straight from the set in Atlanta from when they were filming the big 100th episode. First up: Kayla Ewell, a.k.a. Vicki Donovan.
The party-girl-turned-vampire-turned-ghost was down in Atlanta for the 100th episode wrap party, and was eager to share how confident she was that The CW series would make it this far, even way back in Season 1.
“Honestly, with the writing from the very beginning, I thought it was totally going to make it to 100 episodes,” Ewell tells Zap2it. “It’s really well done and surprising all the time. But the fans are the real reason it’s made it this far. Without the people who want to watch the show, the show doesn’t exist. It’s been a really wonderful journey. It’s really cool. I cannot believe it’s been 100. It’s surreal.”
Although Vicki is no longer with us, Ewell thinks that she’s always around, keeping an eye on her brother from the great beyond. “She’s in a parallel world or something. Of course she’s been watching from The Other Side,” Ewell says. “I think Vicki always watches Matt no matter what.”
Just because she’s dead doesn’t mean she can’t factor in to the story. Back in Season 3, Vicki was able to talk to her brother Matt thanks to a little help from a witch who was trying to get Vicki to kill Elena.
Of course, Matt chose to help save Elena over being able to interact with his sister, but Ewell doesn’t think Vicki’s actions make her a bad person. “I know that the character of Vicki is always kind of misunderstood,” Ewell says. “But underneath it all, there’s really good intentions. She would absolutely help her brother.”
Matt just might need his sister’s help, since he finds himself in quite the bind in the 100th episode thanks to Katherine’s daughter Nadia. “Vicki definitely wouldn’t approve of Nadia,” Ewell says. “But Matt’s a big boy and he can handle himself.”
While Ewell couldn’t reveal much about the 100th episode or whether or not we’ll get to see Vicki again, she did say that it’s going to be one of the series’ best.
“I think the 100th episode is going to be really surprising. It’s really exciting and I think after it airs people will be talking about it a lot,” Ewell says. “If someone misses it, they’re going to wish they had seen it live. You always never know what to expect so when you’re watching it, you’re on the edge of your seat. It’s a show you have to watch before you go on Twitter or social media because everyone’s talking about it. Don’t DVR this show.”
And we had to ask the tough question: is Ewell a Stelena or Delena fan? “I’m a Delena fan, but I go back and forth,” Ewell says, but then she immediately switches. “Maybe Stelena, because that’s been from day one.”
“The Vampire Diaries” 100th episode airs Thursday, Jan. 23 at 8 p.m. ET on The CW.
