The series’ co-creator Josh Schwartz doesn’t say no in a recent interview. Still, the question remains: Should there be more to Chuck and Sarah’s story?
While there certainly could be more spy stories — and the Buy More isn’t going anywhere — it’s arguable that “Chuck” already had a great ending. How could it not? After all, Chuck (Zachary Levi) managed to defuse a bomb (with porn, just like in the series pilot), Jeffster! hit it big after an incredible rendition of “Take on Me,” Ellie and Awesome moved to Chicago … and of course Chuck and Sarah (Yvonne Strahovski) had their “tell me our story” reunion on that beach.
Sure, people might want to know what happened after that final kiss, but is it really necessary?
Schwartz, for one, isn’t convinced that he and co-creator Chris Fedak need to complete anything. “We were very fortunate with ‘Chuck,'” Schwartz says in an interview with EW.com. “As much as we always felt the end was coming, we did get five seasons of the show and an opportunity to tell a lot of story. So I think for myself and Chris Fedak, I think we’d really wanna make sure we had the right story to tell and felt like we were doing it because ‘Oh my God this Chuck movie is going to be amazing!’ That’s the test. Does it feel like you must do this because the audience is going to love this new take?”
There’s also the fact that “Chuck” made it to a natural stopping point — to return to the story would require a full restart of the action. “We ended the show. We felt really good about where we ended it,” Schwartz says.
Despite this, “Chuck” could come back if the story and the motivation ever came together. When asked directly about a movie, Schwartz replies, “Never say never.”
Would a “Chuck” movie be a good thing? Or is the story over?
