The cast and crew of “Game of Thrones” got a very different taste of Iceland when they returned to the country to film in Season 4. Whereas in Season 3 they shot the snowy scenes north of the Wall during the winter in Iceland, the “Game of Thrones” team got to return to the country in the summer this past year, and truly enjoyed it.
A new featurette about the making of Season 4 has been released that shows off the gorgeous Icelandic landscapes that will double for Westeros in the new season. From geysers to waterfalls to mountains, the location filming is going to help give the “Westeros scale” in Season 4.
Based on the cast interviewed in the video (Rose Leslie, Gwendoline Christie, Rory McCann and Maisie Williams) it seems that primarily Ygritte, Brienne, Arya and the Hound will be the ones getting to film in this gorgeous country. That means “Game of Thrones” will follow Ygritte even though she and Jon Snow have gone their separate ways, and that Brienne will leave King’s Landing, which has been where she’s been shown in the Season 4 trailers that have been released.
“Game of Thrones” Season 4 premieres April 6 at 9 p.m. ET/PT on HBO.
