Samuel L. Jackson had a chance to eviscerate a KTLA entertainment reporter on Monday (Feb. 10) morning. Although the idea was to talk to Jackson about “Robocop,” one really bad question took the interview in a whole different direction.
Reporter Sam Rubin started out his interview asking Jackson about the response to his recent Super Bowl commercial. Jackson’s response:
“What Super Bowl commercial?”
Unfortunately for everyone involved — except for the audience, treated to a hilarious bit of awkwardness — Rubin was referring to Laurence Fishburne‘s Kia commercial, not Jackson’s. The anchor did try to change the topic as quickly as possible, but Jackson wasn’t having any of it. “Oh hell no!” was the actual response. Jackson then pointed out that “I’m the ‘What’s in your wallet’ black guy. He’s the car black guy. Morgan Freeman is the other credit card black guy.”
In case you forgot, here’s Fishburne’s Super Bowl ad for Kia.
And here is Jackson’s Capital One commercial:
Oops. Rubin apologized on-air soon afterward, admitting he made a “stupid” mistake in confusing the two actors.
