In an upcoming episode of “Law & Order: SVU,” set to air March 19, the actor will make a guest appearance as a controversial New York newspaper columnist. Hmm. Doesn’t sound too familiar, does it?
Baldwin’s character, Jimmy MacArthur, questions the SVU squad’s motives during the investigation of a potential hate crime/rape case, which, of course, brings him head-to-head with Mariska Hargitay‘s Sgt. Benson. Katie Couric also makes a cameo appearance, playing herself.
The episode also marks Hargitay’s directorial debut.
“I’m thrilled to be directing,” she says in a statement. “It’s been a goal of mine for a long time, and it’s quite an experience to see it realized … And I’ve watched Alec on screen for so long and always hoped we would be able to work together some day. Having the opportunity to tell this story with him, having him bring his experience, depth, truthfulness, and fierce commitment, honestly feels too good to be true.”
The special episode, titled “Criminal Stories,” airs Wednesday, March 19 at 9 p.m. ET/PT on NBC.
