Warning: Don’t keep reading if you want to remain spoiler-free on the figure skating results from Tuesday (Feb. 11). They will be part of NBC’s primetime coverage this evening starting at 8 p.m. ET/PT (hosted by Matt Lauer, as Bob Costas has been sidelined with an eye infection).
UPDATE: The pairs figure skating free skate and medal standings here
With the team figure skating competition complete at the 2014 Winter Olympics, the skaters are looking to their individual competitions. Kicking things off Tuesday was the pairs short program — short and long programs are combined to determine the medal standings.
The Russians dominated the pairs short program, earning the first and third spots with a German pair in between. The U.S. pair of Marissa Castelli and Simon Shnapir (above) finished in 9th place, but they scored a 67.44, which was more than three points higher than the same program scored in the team competition. Their previous performance of this routine featured several bobbles, but this one was skated cleanly.
