NBC’s Winter Olympics coverage recorded some of its lowest ratings of the 2014 games Wednesday night, falling sharply both from Tuesday’s prime-time telecast and from the comparable night four years ago.

Nonetheless, NBC led the night by a wide margin. “American Idol” dropped some for FOX but was the night’s top non-Olympic show. ABC, CBS and The CW largely took the night off.

NBC averaged 20.8 million viewers and a 12.1 rating/19 share in households in primetime. FOX (11.4 million, 6.7/10) finished second, comfortably ahead of CBS (5 million, 3.1/5). ABC (3.6 million, 2.4/4) came in fourth, and The CW (924,000, 0.6/1) trailed.

In the 18-49 demographic, NBC’s 5.6 rating led the way, beating out FOX’s 3.4. ABC took third with a 1.2, followed by CBS, 0.9, and The CW, 0.3.
