It’s still early in “American Idol” Season 13, but it’s clear who the teenage girl favorite is this year: 17-year-old Sam Woolf. The Florida singer still doesn’t know what to make of all the attention, however.
When asked about all the girls in the audience screaming his name — they’re getting louder and louder by the week — Woolf doesn’t even know how to respond. “I don’t know! I do appreciate all my fans,” he tells Zap2it and a small group of reporters backstage after the Top 12 performance show. “I wouldn’t be here without them.”
All the adulation from the ladies is definitely not something Woolf has dealt with at home. “Not really,” he says, “not until they knew that I sang.”
The other contestants have caught on, though. “I think the audience loves Sam a lot. They all apparently saw him and were like ‘That’s my soulmate! That’s him.’ And they want to, like, jump on him,” says fellow finalist Jessica Meuse.
Perhaps the other contestants should try to leverage some of Sam’s fan base for their own benefit? “Oh, we’ve all be doing that. ‘Hey Sam, take a selfie with me!’ Everybody is doing it,” she jokes. “We caught on about two weeks ago.”
