TV fans know Dan Harmon best as the creator and four-seasons-out-of-five showrunner of “Community.” Now it looks like those fans are going to learn a whole lot more about Harmon, thanks to a Nerdist-produced documentary, “Harmontown.”
The documentary is set to premiere at the SXSW festival in Austin, Texas on Saturday (March 8) and promises to give fans an inside look into the writer’s odd and popular “Harmontown” podcasts. Mostly performed during the period in which Harmon was removed from “Community” — all of Season 4 — these silly, drunken, often-profane shows display just about everything people love and hate about Harmon.
Also included in the documentary are testimonials from famous friends (including Joel McHale, Gillian Jacobs and Sarah Silverman) and from fans.
What’s the end result? Harmon himself probably says it best: “I know that I am not just a fat, fired alcoholic — I have an effect on people.”
