Johnny Weir may have been his usual fabulous self during the Sochi Olympics, but it turns out he was hiding some bad news about his personal life the entire time.
On Wednesday (March 19), the former Olympic figure skater revealed that he and husband Victor Voronov are ending their marriage after two years.
“It is with great sadness that I announce that my husband and I are no longer together. My heart hurts, and I wish him well,” Weir shared on Twitter. The announcement was preceded by a foreshadowing statement that was later deleted, which read, “A sad announcement is coming soon, and the only people I wish to speak with are @TheEllenShow and @Oprah.”
Turns out he was willing to speak elsewhere, however, as he issued a statement to “Access Hollywood.” “I’ve been sad for a long time,” he says. “And unfortunately don’t foresee a way to resolve our current marital issues.”
Weir and Voronov, a lawyer, tied the knot in a civil ceremony in New York on New Year’s Eve 2011.
Weir’s full interview on the end of his marriage will air on “Access Hollywood” on Thursday.
