Say you’re a morning news anchor, and an earthquake hits in the middle of your live broadcast. Do you A) continue reporting calmly on what just happened or B) immediately take refuge under the desk?
Megan Henderson and Chris Schauble of L.A. station KTLA chose B Monday morning (March 17), and a viral video was born.
In defense of the two anchors, they were doing what people are told to do in the event of an earthquake: Get under a desk or table. And considering the heavy lights and equipment that typically hang from the ceiling in a TV studio, it’s an understandable reaction.
Still, their reaction is pretty much the reason YouTube exists. The quake measured at a 4.4 on the Richter scale and was centered a few miles from the KTLA studio (which, incidentally, is in the same building as Zap2it; both are owned by Tribune Co.). There were no reports of injuries or damage from the quake.
