Neither rumor is correct according to CBS chairman Les Moonves in an interview with Bloomberg Television.
As for the Harris rumor, Moonves thinks that came from talks with the actor about possibilities following “How I Met Your Mother.”
“Neil Patrick Harris has been a member of our family and I’m very close to him personally,” Moonves explains. “So after Neil was done we said, all right Neil, what do you want to do? What do you want to do? What are the possibilities? Want to come do a new series with us? And we knew probably Letterman and 12:30 might be open, late night. What do you think about that? So it was a very general topic. So I wouldn’t say we didn’t talk about it, but he wasn’t offered it per se.”

According to Moonves, this was just a chance meeting with McHale at a part on Wednesday (May 14).
“We were at a party the other night. We were at a dinner night, and I’d never met Joel McHale,” Moonves says. “I said, hey Joel. Come over and sit down. Let’s have a chat. So we’re chatting. And my wife Julie, who has her own talk show, says all right, I’m going to tweet out this picture, right?
Regarding Ferguson’s replacement, Moonves doesn’t have an answer for now. “There’s all sorts of possibilities,” he says.
