copycat jonathan bennett mtv 'Copycat' trailer: 'Mean Girls' Jonathan Bennett hosts new MTV singing competition series MTV’s new singing competition series “Copycat” may not premiere until June 2, but Zap2it has your first look at the unique, fan-centric show right now.

Hosted by Jonathan Bennett — a.k.a. Aaron Samuels from “Mean Girls” — this is a singing competition that takes elements from “American Idol” and “The Voice,” all mixed with MTV’s signature celebrity twist. Three pairs of contestants compete in a karaoke “cat fight battle,” paying tribute to their favorite artists by singing their songs in front of a live studio audience.

But here’s the catch: The audience can’t see the singers at first, so someone who may sound identical to a pop star may look nothing like his/her idol. The top two performers will then move on to the final round where they undergo full wardrobe and make-up makeovers to fully embody their celebrity icons, becoming true “Copycats.” The winner walks away with full bragging rights … and, of course, a $5,000 cash prize!
