Interestingly, the performers were not judged on stage-craft — the first magician to fool Penn & Teller was a rather dour Frenchman with an impressive but not entertaining card trick. They were instead supposed to do a trick that can’t be figured out when watched by the titular judges. Mostly, the performers failed.
But they were a lot of fun to watch. That works — especially when watching a show imported for the summer from the U.K.
