So guys, we just heard the most radical news ever! In a match made in 80’s heaven, Vulture reports “The Wonder Years” star Fred Savage will direct an early Season 2 episode of ABC’s hit retro-themed comedy “The Goldbergs.“
The actor, probably best known as bleeding heart Kevin Arnold on the late 80’s nostalgic show, is now an accomplished director, working on shows such as “Modern Family,” “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia,” and “Happy Endings.“
“Fred is one of the biggest TV directors out there now and ‘Wonder Years’ was such a huge influence for me growing up.
It’s the reason I wanted to become a writer. So it’s really cool and
full-circle to have him directing an episode for us,” show creator Adam F. Goldberg tells Vulture of his admiration for Savage.
The directing news adds to a lot of news breaking today (July 16) about what lies ahead in Season 2, TVline reports Goldberg is planning a “very expensive” homage to a yet to be disclosed John Hughes film is in the works for episode and “Goldbergs” actors Troy Gentile and Wendi McLendon-Covey told Zap2it at the ABC summer press tour (July 15), they were especially excited about their royal wedding– think Charles and Diana, not William and Kate–themed episode.
Sounds like a lot of fun is in store for viewers when “The Goldbergs” returns for Season 2, September 24 on ABC.
