Fans of “Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD” got the first ever glimpse of the much anticipated new Marvel series “Agent Carter” on Friday (Oct. 10) at the New York Comic Con panel.
Marvel’s head of television Jeph Loeb kicked things off by thanking the completely packed house of “SHIELD” fans, and asking if everyone “was awake.” He pointed out the roaming ushers, who were on point to look for anyone with recording equipment, saying they “look like HYDRA, but they’re definitely ‘SHIELD’ agents.”
But then Loeb himself unzipped his hoodie to reveal a HYDRA t-shirt.
Who swooped in to save the day? Clark Gregg.
“It was just a shirt!” shouted Loeb.
“That’s what they all say, and then they’re HYDRA!” yelled Gregg.
Gregg really, really, likes his job. He thrilled the house by running out on the stage, and then jumping over the barrier to greet his fans to the cheers of “Coulson! Coulson!” He also recounted his personal history with New York Comic Con. It was at this event that he learned Coulson wasn’t all the way completely dead, and as such, Gregg thinks NYCC is the “greatest con in the world.”
Take that, San Diego Comic Con.
Loeb and Gregg then introduced an advance screening of the next episode of “SHIELD,” airing Tuesday (Oct. 14). No spoilers (because we’re pretty sure HYDRA will show up at our door) but … Melinda May proves to be the strongest woman character on TV. Twice over.
But the night wasn’t over yet.
Clark Gregg himself hand carried the DVD of a scene “literally shot Monday,” according to Loeb, from the new show “Agent Carter,” featuring Hayley Atwell, Dominic Cooper as Howard Stark and James D’Arcy as the original butler, Jarvis.
American TV will get a lot more British accents onscreen when the show debuts in January 2015.
“Agents of SHIELD” airs Tuesdays at 9 p.m. ET/PT on ABC.
