Celine Dion will be returning to Las Vegas to continue her residency at Caesar’s Palace sometime in the near future, but the singer has had a good reason to take a break from the spotlight.
In an interview with ABC News set to air Wednesday (March 25) Dion opens up about stepping away from her shows to take care of her husband Rene Angelil while he is battling cancer.
“He can’t use his mouth,” Dion confesses through tears to ABC News’ Deborah Roberts. “He can’t eat, so I feed him. He’s got a feeding tube. I have to feed him three times a day. I do this myself, and so I feed my husband and feed my kids.”
The couple has been married since 1994 and have three sons together. Angelil also acted as Dion’s manager for the majority of her career before stepping down due to his cancer struggle. Angelil was first diagnosed with the disease in 1999 and had a tumor removed from his throat in 2013.
Dion’s last performance at Caesar’s was in July 2014, before she stepped away to care for her husband. The singer was also then struggling with an illness that caused her throat muscles to become enflamed.
Dion is expected to return to her residency in August 2015.
