"Outlander" Season 2 may not be hitting TV screens for months and months, but that doesn't mean the cast didn't have a good time teasing the crowd at their San Diego Comic-Con panel on Saturday (July 11). Lots of fun, whisky and even some eyeliner. No really. Colin O'Donoghue of "Hook" ... you know what we mean.
We live-blogged everything that was said, so check that out below, along with these three brand-new stills from Season 2.
Kristin Dos Santos with E! News is the host of the panel, self-described “Outlander fanatic.”
Kristin introduces Meril Davis, Ron D. Moore, Caitriona Balfe (who took a picture of the crowd), Sam Heughan, and Diana Gabaldon.
And Ron brought a quick look at Season 2! Just a taste! YAY!
Sorry, non Comic-Con attendees. That film will not be released wide.
While we can’t tell you anything about that teaser, we will say there were some specifically funny audio problems that made Sam sound a bit like a chipmunk.
Diana (Herself) is writing a script for Season 2!
What will be different from the book in Season 2? Ron says the political and historical moving parts of the book make the adaptation harder, but they’re always trying to return to the book, and to deliver the story that the fans love.
Sam: Cait likes working with the French actors, especially the really attractive ones.
Cait: Well, it makes a change, hon.
As if by magic, a bottle of Laphroaig has appeared on the panel table.
Crazy, we say. Will you guys share?
And now, it’s a round of “say it straight-faced or drink.”
Cait doesn’t make it.
Sam’s line: I admit, the thought of grinding your corn does tickle me.
Next round… some of them are ’50 Shades of Grey’ lines.
Cait’s line: You know nothing, Jamie Fraser.
Any new casting news that Ron and Meril are excited for the fans to see?
September 29th will be the release date for the “Outlander” Season 1 DVD, which will include some new extras and bonuses.
And now they have a Season 1 gag reel for the fans!
The gag reel was of course funny. Lots of Cait hitting her head, poor thing.
How many times has Sam been asked what he wears under the kilt? “At least once a day,” says Sam. And Season 2 is of course a bit more kilt-free, unfortunately. But there’s still “an air of Scottishness about Jamie,” says Sam.
Diana was quoted at a book signing as saying “If I never see a close up of the front of Sam’s trousers again, it will be too soon.”
Sam looks puzzled.
The cast drinks to that.
Diana says Ron and Sam have seen the last scene of the last book, as Diana has already written that. No one else in the world, she says, has read that scene.
What problems did Ron have when filming outside in Scotland?
Sam: “Cait likes to wear the ‘baby bump’ around as much as possible.”
Cait: “Shopping, going running, really getting into it.”
The comfort level of Cait’s costumes in Season 2? “The bum roll is much larger,” she says.
“It is,” says Sam.
Kristin references the E! “Alpha Male Madness” contest, and tells Sam she owes her a debt since he won that particular contest.
And Kristin reminds Sam that he’s yet to dress up like Colin O’Donoghue’s Hook.
Who wants to see Sam dress up as a pirate?
