With casting news, Instagram photos and passive aggressive tweets coming out every day, it’s getting difficult to keep track of what’s what in the world of “Gilmore Girls.” Most recently Milo Ventimiglia signed on to appear in the series, meaning both of Rory’s most significant love interests will be back in her life.
To help you keep everything straight, Zap2it has come up with a list of rock solid facts about who’s signed on, who’s not, and what to expect from the revival.
1. The revival will premiere on Netflix in 2016
Rather than a WB or CW revival, “Gilmore Girls” will be heading to Netflix, which allows the show much more freedom. No premiere date is set yet, but Netflix released a statement on April 11 that the series would “launch later this year, everywhere Netflix is available.”
2. There are dozens of original cast members confirmed
The important ones you need to know are Lauren Graham, Alexis Bledel, Kelly Bishop, Scott Patterson, Matt Czuchry, Keiko Agena, Liza Weil, Milo Ventimiglia, Jared Padalecki, and David Sutcliffe. In fan terms, that’s Lorelai, Rory, Emily, Luke, Logan, Lane, Paris, Jess, Dean, and Christopher. TV Line has the full spotter’s guide.
3. One very important cast member is no longer missing
Sookie St. James (Melissa McCarthy) confirmed via twitter that she was not contacted to be part of the revival series, but after a few public statements from Amy Sherman-Palladino, McCarthy officially signed on to guest star in one scene.
4. The revival will be four episodes long
Each episode will be 90-minutes long and they will be based on the four season of the year: winter, spring, summer, and fall.
5. Richard Gilmore is no longer with us
Sadly, Ed Herrmann passed away in late 2014, and the revival plans to deal with his absence in the same manner. Richard’s passing will kick off the first episode, and Emily will be suffering from some serious grief.
6. We’ll meet some new characters in Stars Hollow
According to E! News, Berta and Alejandro, a Peruvian couple, will be new, as well as a man named Nat Compton, and a brother/sister combo named Tim and Gabriela. Lane and Zach’s 9-year-old Korean-American twins Stevie and Kwan, a totally new 13-year-old named Dewey, and Clementina, a nanny, will also show up in the series.
7. There will be a time jump
The revival is planning to pick up in real time, as if the past nine years these characters have been off-screen have been passing like normal.
8. The final four words will be revealed
Creator Amy-Sherman Palladino teased years ago that she knew the final four words of the series, but because she was not involved in the final season, those words remain a mystery. The revival answers that question in the last episode, “Fall.”
9. Rory is still single
Though she’s rumored to still be dating like any normal 20-something, Amy Sherman-Palladino confirms to TV Line that Rory is not married, so she can still technically be called ‘single.’
10. Prepare for more “La-La’s”
Song writer Sam Phillips has also signed on for the revival, meaning that her iconic “la-la” based music will be back, accompanying Lorelai and Rory wherever they go.
11. Jess is confirmed for 3 episodes
Milo Ventimiglia spoke to TV Line about his part in the revival, and when asked about how many episodes he’d star in, he gave the mysterious answer, “More than two, less than four.”
12. Sutton Foster will play a new character
You might recognize Sutton Foster from Amy Sherman-Palladino’s ABC Family series “Bunheads.” Foster has signed on to the revival, but there’s no news yet on which character she’ll be playing.
13. April Nardini wasn’t just a bad dream – she’s back
Most fans least favorite “Gilmore Girls” character, April Nardini, will be part of the revival too. Vanessa Marano confirmed to Variety that she has signed on to reprise her role as Luke’s formerly estranged daughter.
14. Paul Anka is still a resident of the Gilmore house
No, not the singer, the dog! TV Line confirmed that the pooch would be back to reprise his role as Lorelai’s eccentric pet.
15. Stars Hollow is still full of wonky townspeople
Lorelai’s nosey neighbors, Babette (Sally Struthers) and Miss Patty (Liz Torres), plus town selectman, Taylor Dosey (Michael Winters), are in for the revival. Other Stars Hollow residents who previously signed on include Michel (Yanic Truesdale), Mrs. Kim (Emily Kuroda), and Kirk (Sean Gunn). Lane’s husband, Zach (Todd Lowe), and Sookie’s husband, Jackson (Jackson Douglas), will also return.
16. The Life and Death Brigade is back
Both Collin (Alan Loayza) and Finn (Tanc Sade) will return for the revival. With Logan, that means all three main Life and Death Brigade members will be back in action. “In Omnia Paratus!”
17. Mae Whitman will make a cameo
News is thin on this cameo, but TV Line reports that Lauren Graham’s other on-screen daughter will share “a really fun (albeit small) moment with Graham that will delight ‘Parenthood’ fans.”
18. Luke and Lorelai are not married
In an Entertainment Weekly magazine spread, Amy Sherman-Palladino revealed that even though the revival will skip ahead quite a few years, Luke and Lorelai will not have gotten married in the interim.
19. The episodes will most likely be released separately
While Netflix hasn’t confirmed a release date or a strategy for the release of each episode/movie, Amy Sherman-Palladino says, “My preference would be they would not be released at once, because I feel like there’s going to be anticipation, and I think the diehard fans would enjoy it more with a little separation.”
20. Dan Bucatinsky will play a new character
While his role in the revival is still top secret, Bucatinsky did Instagram a photo of himself on set with Alexis Bledel, so whoever he is, he’ll likely be orbiting Rory’s life.
21. We officially have a title and a poster!
The revival’s official title is: “Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life”
22. River Song is coming to Stars Hollow
Alex Kingston will appear in multiple episodes of the revival as a new “very eccentric character.” We’re guessing Stars Hollow is about to get another crazy, yet lovable resident.
