When Oliver Queen (Stephen Amell) ended up being named mayor of Star City at the end of "Arrow" Season 4, there was a part in all of us that hoped he would be good at the job. Of course, a bigger part of us knew that could never be the case. Guess which part was right?
Not only is Oliver a less than stellar mayor, he's actually pretty terrible at it. Amell himself tells Zap2it that he's doing "poorly, badly" at best.
"He's basically using the mayoral office as a gateway to his vigilante work," he says. Somehow in ridding Star City of its corrupt mayoral candidate in Ruve Adams (Janet Adams), he brought corruption of his own to the office.
As Amell explains though, Oliver feels he's without any other choice.
"Because it's just him. There's no team," he says. "Which means there's more for him to do."
Still, Oliver doesn't hold any ill will toward his teammates that departed the Arrowcave at the end of Season 4. "I think people left for good reasons," Amell says, defending his squad. "Diggle left for good reasons. Thea left for good reasons. We explore both of those reasons in the early part of the show."
"Arrow" returns Wednesday, Oct. 5 at 8 p.m. ET/PT on The CW.
