When Ed Nygma (Cory Michael Smith) and Oswald Cobblepot (Robin Lord Taylor) sparked up a friendship in Season 2 of "Gotham," it was clear that the two were meant to share the screen -- the chemistry was just too perfect.

Unfortunately, between Arkham Asylum, brainwashing, cannibalism and framing Jim Gordon (Ben McKenzie), the friendship didn't last long as there was plenty for both to deal with throughout the year. With the upcoming Season 3 though, the Nygma and Cobblepot connection is going to be a major focus, though.

"We're going to spend a lot of time together this year," Smith tells Zap2it. "I don't want to give anything away, but we'll be together a lot."

Taylor, who is jokingly convinced fans are going to ship the two villains as best friends, can't wait for fans to see what they get up to. "Ed and Oswald are going to be up to some pretty amazing stuff this year and come closer than they're ever been in their friendship," he says. "They've both lost everything, so the only thing they have is they find each other."

"They're like little peas in a pod," Camren Bicondova (Selina Kyle) adds in with a smile.

Don't forget just how evil these particular peas are, though. After all, they've both been shown to have no issue with killing people when it suits their interests.

"The differences in these two people are going to reveal themselves. You're just going to realize how different these people are," Smith explains. "One is emotional, one is cerebral. Those two things are going to lean up against each other really hard."

"Gotham" returns Monday, Sept. 19, at 8 p.m. ET/PT on FOX.
