Fifteen years later, we still haven’t gotten that movie where Elle Woods gets elected president. But that doesn’t mean the character isn’t a national treasure worthy of being celebrated — and with that in mind, let’s look back on “Legally Blonde,” the classic comedy that became a sensation upon its July 13, 2001 release.
Of course, at the center of the whole movie was a star-cementing performance by Reese Witherspoon as Elle — a sorority sister who goes after her law degree and in the process reminds everyone that there’s no problem some pink and a smile can’t fix. The film was nominated for a Golden Globe for Best Comedy or Musical, Witherspoon was similarly nominated for Best Actress and the smash hit would go on to inspire everything from a sequel to a Broadway musical.
As you do yourself a favor and revisit the classic, here are some memorable words of advice from Elle to live by.
If you feel homicidal, exercise!
Pink will always be the new pink
When you’re looking for love, don’t forget the bend and snap
Keep your hair care simple
