“Shooter” stars Ryan Phillippe as a military veteran and sniper wrongly accused of a crime and trying to clear his name. It is based on the 2007 film of the same name starring Mark Wahlberg — which itself is based on the bestselling Stephen Hunter novel “Point of Impact.”

The series is produced by Paramount Television and Universal Cable Productions. Wahlberg, Stephen Levinson, of Leverage Entertainment and Lorenzo di Bonaventura serve as executive producers. John Hlavin wrote the pilot and also is an executive producer. Simon Cellan Jones directed the pilot.

Last week saw five police officers killed by a sniper in Dallas and eight others injured. The shootings occurred during a peaceful protest sparked by the fatal police shootings of African-American men in Baton Rouge, La. and Falcon Heights, Minn.
