While it may seem that Tom Cruise has shied away from the media spotlight recently, the megastar has quietly been working non-stop. He will soon be saturating movie theaters with a slew of new sequels and re-makes including “Top Gun 2” and a revamped version of “The Mummy.” On Sunday (July 3), Cruise celebrates his 54th birthday, and even though he’s now just a year away from being able to reap all those AARP benefits, Cruise doesn’t appear to be slowing down one bit as Hollywood’s lead action film star.
Not only is he in preproduction to reprise his role as Ethan Hunt in a sixth “Mission Impossible” movie, he also just finished filming “Jack Reacher: Never Go Back” with “How I Met Your Mother” actress, Cobie Smulders. And if that wasn’t enough, he’s currently on set with “Breaking Bad” actor Jesse Plemons for the crime thriller, “Mena.”
With his storied film career, and nary a hint of retirement, it’s safe to say Cruise will never need to take advantage of his looming senior citizen status. But then again, who wouldn’t want to jump on all these amazing deals? Once Cruise turns 55, he can get 10% off Chili’s, Dunkin Donuts, McDonald’s and IHOP, according to Tough Nickel.
Unfortunately, age 55 is still too young for many of the discounts available to America’s elderly. Cruise will have to wait another five years before cashing in on Sonic Burger’s 10% off deal. And then he’ll have to wait another five years before qualifying for free beverages and five percent off at Taco Bell — news for which Cruise must find devastating.
Needless to say, the actor won’t be trolling for senior citizen perks. Nor has Cruise appeared to have aged a day in the past 20 years. Just look at his gorgeous mug from 1986’s “Top Gun.” Serving Lord Xenu does have its benefits, after-all.
