“The Vampire Diaries” Season 8 might still be a long ways off, but at least now we can pick apart set photos and Instagram videos for spoilers as our favorite stars return to set to begin filming their new season.

Vampires and werewolves alike returned to Atlanta, where “The Vampire Diaries” films this week, and showrunner Julie Plec grabbed a few adorable photos of the cast together at what looks like a welcome back dinner.

This cast is too cute! Don’t think we didn’t catch series co-creator Kevin Williamson in those photos too. Could he be returning to give some input on the new episodes?

We’re sure fans are pouring over the cast and crew’s social media accounts for clues about where Damon (Ian Somerhalder) and Enzo’s (Michael Marlarkey) murder-spree will take them — or when we’ll get our first Steroline kiss — but hold your horses. We likely won’t get the answers to those questions for another few months … unless we can trick someone into spilling details at San Diego Comic Con.

Luckily, Zap2it has the rundown of what we know so far about “The Vampire Diaries” Season 8.

There’s a new nanny in town

“The Vampire Diaries” cast our friendly neighborhood “Containment” alum, Kristen Gutoskie to play a new character named Seline. She is described as “a warm, nurturing nanny of two young kids by day, and a small-town girl trying to find her place in a dangerous world by night.”

Sounds to us like she might be hanging with Alaric (Matt Davis) and the twins. As a newly single dad, we think Alaric should go for it.

Bon-Bon’s magical batteries are dead

As we learned in the Season 7 finale, Bonnie’s magic never returned after they cured her huntress urges, meaning that locator spells — or any other spell for that matter — are out of the question. Julie Plec told TV Line that this will create a huge amount of turmoil for Bonnie as she struggles to save the two most important men in her life.

Alaric might get an intern

TV Line reported that a new magic buff will hit the scene in Season 8. They describe this new character, Georgie, as “an occult research intern with a few demons of her own.” In the absence of actual magical powers, maybe this new girl will have some info on what was in the vault or how to find Damon and Enzo?

Matt Donovan isn’t done yet

We worried that Matt Donovan’s (Zach Roerig) decision to pack up and leave Mystic Falls would mean that we’d said goodbye to everyone’s favorite human for good. Luckily, the photos above have reassured us that he’s returned for the first days of filming, so we’ll likely see him sooner rather than later.

Sybil is our new baddie

Another new character being added to the bunch is Sybil. We don’t know much about her other than the character description, which calls her “an immortal who uses her immeasurable power and influence to control other people.”

If we’re placing bets on who turns out to be the Vault Monster of Doom, an immortal wielding “immeasurable power” is a safe place to put your money.

Say bye-bye to Bamon

Both Ian Somerhalder and Kat Graham have announced that Season 8 will be their last, meaning that this year we either face the end of “The Vampire Diaries” entirely, or the end of our time with Damon Salvatore and Bonnie Bennett. We honestly can’t decide which is a worse fate.

“The Vampire Diaries” returns Friday, October 21 at 8 p.m. ET/PT on The CW.
