The McConaissance continues.
Wild Turkey announced Monday (Aug. 1) that Matthew McConaughey is the new face for its brand, but it’s much more than the actor simply shilling for the bourbon. The Oscar-winner is the new creative director, which means he’ll be writing/directing ads, starring in a documentary about the 161-year-old brand and maybe even producing a McConaughey-branded bourbon.
McConaughey’s interview with the New York Times about his new gig already reads like it has several good ad campaigns in it, like “Wild Turkey hasn’t changed in all these years — it’s totally authentic” and “Millennials don’t want bourbon lite. These people want bourbon, brother!”
So with that in mind, Zap2it has some suggestions for the bourbon’s print campaign — because McConaughey’s iconic movie quotes make great taglines.
‘Dallas Buyers Club’
McConaughey won an Oscar for his performance in this serious film about helping AIDS patients getting the medication they so desperately need. It doesn’t exactly scream “bourbon,” but this one line makes an excellent rough-and-tumble ad campaign.
In keeping with the rough-and-tumble idea, invoking “lawbreakers” definitely feels like a good way to sell bourbon. Also, what better hashtag to describe McConaughey than “never tamed.”
Rust Cole could be quite the philosopher, so his quotes might be a little heavy for a bourbon ad but this one works quite well.
