When Sterling K. Brown won the Emmy for Best Supporting Actor in a Limited Series for “People v. O.J. Simpson” on Sunday (Sept. 18), the crowd went wild, as his performance as Christopher Darden was epic. However, it was his acceptance speech that set a trend that continued through the evening’s event.

Towards the end of his speech, Brown thanked his wife Ryan Michelle Bathe in a pretty baller way. Quoting Jay Z's "Public Service Announcement," Sterling announces, "I got the hottest chick in the game rockin' my chain."

It wasn't long before the theme continued. When Courtney B. Vance hit the stage to accept his award for Best Actor in a Limited Series, he too dropped the hip hop lyric when he thanked the support of his wife Angela Bassett.

It may have been 13 years since the Jay Z track was released -- off of his classic "The Black Album" -- but the reference held relevance throughout the night. So much so, that when Steven Moffat took the stage to receive the award for Best TV Movie with "Sherlock: The Abominable Bride," the man tried to use the quote.

And even though he had no idea what he was talking about, the joke landed perfectly.

And finally -- as if handed the British joke baton -- John Oliver took the stage Best Variety Talk Series. He too, did his best to acknowledge his wife while rocking some chains. It may not have made sense to him, but that just made the joke that much more endearing.
