After four years of rowing his tiny little boat to safety, we might finally see where Gendry (Joe Dempsie) landed after escaping Stannis (Stephen Dillane) and Melisandre (Carice van Houten) in Season 3.

Gendry may have managed to fly under the radar in Westeros for the past few years, but Dempsie has no such luck in the real world. The actor was spotted by an eager “Game of Thrones” fan in the Belfast airport on Wednesday (Sept. 14), just as the show plans to begin filming Season 7.

We’re not too surprised that Gendry may now finally resurface given that his most common scene partner, Arya (Maisie Williams), has also returned to Westeros after spending a few years abroad.

There seemed to be a hint of romance between the two characters, but Arya’s young age always seemed to quash any notions that something would develop between the two. Now that Arya is a few years older and wiser — and apparently very murder-happy — an Arya/Gendry pairing might not be so out of the question.

Romantic entanglements notwithstanding, we’re just excited to see these two potentially reunite. Not only because we’re dying to know where Gendry has been hiding the past few years, but also because Arya might need him now more than ever

If Williams is to be believed, we should be worried for Arya’s sanity in Season 7, now that she’s headed down a very dark path of revenge and violence. Without Jon (Kit Harington) and Sansa (Sophie Turner) to remind her of her family and humanity, it may be up to Gendry to keep Arya from turning into a cold-blooded assassin.

“Game of Thrones” returns summer 2017.
