“How to Get Away with Murder” is back with an all new mystery to solve, and we’re pretty sure it’s going to give us a heart attack each week.
The flash-forward to two months after the beginning of the Keating Five’s second year in law school reveals that Annalise’s (Viola Davis) house has caught fire, and a dead body has been wheeled out.
We know it’s not Annalise because she’s the one screaming across the police tape to let her see the body. Whoever it is, it’s caused an extremely emotional reaction in Annalise, but at this point, that’s not very telling. She’s come to care deeply about all of these characters, so it really could be anyone.
On the other hand, it could all be an act that she’s playing out for the benefit of the crowd and the paramedics because you never really know with Annalise!
Each week, “How to Get Away with Murder” will reveal a new character who is alive and well and NOT under the sheet, and every week, we’ll struggle to speculate about whoever is left on the chopping block. This week, it’s almost everyone.
At this point, Annalise is not going to shed any tears over Frank’s death because of how deeply she hates him after learning his secret. Unless we see some serious forgiveness and bonding going on in Season 3, we’re going to go ahead and say Frank (Charlie Weber) and his newly shaved face are safe.
As much as we love to laugh at Asher (Matt McGorry), no one would actually bust out in tears if this guy happened to bite it. Sure, we’d be sad, but we wouldn’t be as wrecked as Annalise appeared to be. Asher is safe.
Laurel (Karla Souza) also doesn’t seem like a good bet. Even though Laurel pledged her allegiance to Annalise, we still think she might be on team Frank. If that’s enough to get her set on fire, then we might put her further up the list next time.
The sarcastic and cynical vibe that Annalise and Connor (Jack Falahee) have got going is a special kind of bond, and we’d be sad to see it go. Unfortunately, we just can’t see “How to Get Away with Murder” killing off one of their most popular characters, so we’re betting Connor is safe.
There’s a serious chance the person under the sheet is Bonnie (Liza Weil). For all their troubles, Annalise and Bonnie treat each other like family, and Annalise would be a total mess if she found out that Bonnie had been burned alive in her house.
While we can’t really see a reason to kill Oliver (Conrad Ricamora) off now that he’s just become a series regular, we’re not ruling it out. Annalise would surely feel guilty if she hired Oliver against Connor’s wishes, only for him to die tragically in her house 2 months later.
Wes (Alfred Enoch) is probaly the most likely person to be caught up in this mess. Killing off a lead like Enoch would be a huge move for the show, and we’re not convinced that business with his dead father is at all sorted out. That chicken will surely come home to roost and it will not be fun. We’ve got our eye on you, Wes.
Despite our strong urge to believe it’s Wes, we’ve got a weird feeling that Michaela (Aja Naomi King) is actually under that sheet. Michaela has apparently gone down a self-destructive path over the summer is not a good indicator for her. Plus, Annalise did invite her to come over to her place and drink whenever she felt down. Who’s to say she didn’t come over for a cocktail and stumble into something serious?
“How to Get Away with Murder” airs Thursdays at 10 p.m. ET/PT on ABC.
