Happy 11/11/11, everyone. There are a lot of ways you could mark the occasion: You could watch highlights of famous athletic 11s like Isaiah Thomas, Yao Ming and Mark Messier, eat some KFC with its 11 herbs and spices or watch the clock until it hits 11:11 and 11 seconds, making it 11:11:11 on 11/11/11.
(And, in all seriousness, you should make note of the fact that it’s Veterans Day and offer a minute of thanks to people who have served.)
But we’ll be watching “This Is Spinal Tap” and paying tribute to the patron saint of 11s, Nigel Tufnel. As played by Christopher Guest in the all-time great fake documentary, Nigel takes director Marty DiBergi (Rob Reiner) on a tour of his guitar collection and introduces him to the loudest Marshall amp in the world. How loud? Well, it’s one more, isn’t it?
Here’s the scene in question. We’d like to think that somewhere today, Nigel is turning it up to 11 and whaling on “Hellhole” and “Big Bottom.”
