Joseph Hall, the 12-year-old boy on trial for killing his neo-Nazi dad, has been found guilty. The LA Times reports that Riverside County Superior Court Judge Jean P. Leonard believes the boy knew what he was doing, saying, “this is not a naive little boy unaware of the ways of the world.”
Hall claimed he killed his father due to an episode of the CBS show “Criminal Minds,” in which a child kills their abusive parent and isn’t punished for it. The judge said while the boy had been damaged by abuse and neglect, the evidence that he plotted the 2011 attack and his knowledge that it was wrong could not be ignored.
The father, Jeffrey Hall, was a neo-Nazi leader on the west coast and took his son to events, including patrolling the Mexican border looking for illegal immigrants. “It’s clear that this minor knows more than the average child about guns, hate and violence,” Judge Leonard said.
A juvenile disposition hearing has been set for February 15, which will determine Hall’s punishment.
